In 1996, 2002, 2003 and 2004, Daniel Richmond was Artist-in-Residence on the Navajo Nation in Arizona. During those visits he worked with hundreds of students and community members. Richmond taught basic wood carving and helped create four murals along with an outdoor arts & sciences educational area complete with irrigation system, native plantings, stone and carved wooden elements.

Project participants explore the use of natural materials and discuss environmental issues. Projects are designed to encourage group participation and communal awareness.
